Not really sure if any of the rumoured devices interest me tommorow, as living in the UK we probably will be denied any kind of movie download service (still waiting for tv show downloads to start) The media streaming device might be a cool idea but unless it had support for divx/transport stream files wouldn't really interest me either and cant imagine apple allowing support of an outside player like VLC and without any kind of download structure available to view apple sourced files outside the USA cant imagine it taking off. Having moaned a bit though I have still ordered a 24 imac and cant wait for it to arrive ( I love watching hdtv files on my 20' imac now so 24' must be heaven)

I was just gonna say that. As a UK user i'm not really bothered because we wont be getting anything....its all Yankee based. Heck even the battery recall is practically non-existent. I have yet to hear one UK user receive his/her battery whilst US users are getting theres as soon as 48 hrs of sending their requests.

I'm one of the people that find the price tag to be a bit hefty. But, I'd rather not use it than have a free watered-down service.

All I can say is Apple better be coming out with a mid-range tower. Upping the baseline of the MacPro to $2500, what is that. Sure it looks like a sweet computer, but what about small businesses or starving artists who cant afford that. Now we're stuck with the all-in-ones.

Can you boot off the stuff in the DMG?

I havent tried that but you can create a bootable USB drive: http://www.blogchampion.com/blog/2011/3/12/how-to-create-a-bootable-mac-os-x-lion-usb-installer-from-ap.html

When I am back home I will try to burn the dmg file and see if it boots.

LOL! So Apple's ability to control a consumer market is a good thing? Tell me you're not that naive.

LOL! I love it when someone calls someone else "naive" when the opposite is true just based on their statement! Funny isn't it?

I posted this question in another thread but no one has answered it, so... I was wondering what thoughts you had on this:

Will this upgrade to Core 2 Duo be considered a RevB strictly speaking, for the iMacs? I mean, since it's a new generation of Intel chip as opposed to a speed bump of an existing chip, is it likely to cause any unknown bugs or dramas that the Core Duos didn't?

I'm in the market for a new iMac when they put the new chips in, but I want to be confident that this time they'll have ironed out all the bugs from the initial release of Intel iMacs, plus not be likely to have new bugs caused by the new architecture of the Core 2 Duos.

    Thoughts?

    Chuck.

If iMacs get Merom its highly likely there'll be 0 new problems. If they get Conroe there is a very very small possibility of heat issues.

I'm not impressed if this is where the iMac display is potentially going , the current GPUs can barely drive the resolutions they have now in anything other than simple desktop apps . , can you imagine what video card you would need to drive a game (say portal 2 which has low to modest requirements) at 30fps + on a screen with 3200 or higher resloution ? Well whatever that GPU is , apple will ship with the one released 2 years ago and half the RAM it shipped with on the PC .

I love the mac OS , I love the mac design , I hate the "last years tech with a shiney shell" we seem to have to put up with , super high res screens and faster I/O ports are all well and good , but put a decent GPU in now the mac is becoming a contender as a home gaming platform .

Think I ranted a bit then , sorry
    Good post.

    Queue the hitler response.....

And when Hitler's constituents thought he was wrong, he decided to annihilate those who didn't want to see things his way too. Destroying opposition rather than improving one's self is way's a "#WINNING" thing to do.

Wow, I gotta get some credit for that one... Charlie Sheen, Apple, and Hitler all in one sentence!

Hitler? What the heck. This is one company exercising their right to control its product. How you got to Hitler is beyond bizzare. This is just an electronic device

"Hey I can't Jailbreak my phone! Darn Apple is like Genghis Khan!"

How many people plan to dump their Core Duo Macs for Core 2 Duo Macs?

Already sold my MBP 17" and my 20" iMac and are shipping them out this weekend...he he he.

Then again, I have two reasons to have the latest and greatest shiny new thing.
    1) I have a terrible disease that causes me to do this.
    2) I edit everything from 30 second commercial spots to feature length documentaries and I need to have all the speed I can get.

My 2-year contract finishes next month and my 3G is almost inoperative. No way I want to buy into the antenna problems with a 4. Glad you're happy though.

The Antenna issue goes away if you use a case, or you hold the phone so that the bottom left black line isnt covered by skin.

So, lets see if I understand?

Apple is doing everything they can to move things to the cloud while AT&T and Verizon are ratcheting down how much you can use their network to access what you put in the cloud...

Agree KJR. And I smell a rate hike. Look, you buy a hi-def TV and KommieKast and its ilk, charge you a fortune to watch network (read sponsored) hi-def shows. The cloud is just another way to fire up a profit center.

AND EMP hates the cloud. When the illegals join forces with the zombies and nuke us, hey presto, no cloud.

RIM was the smartphone market for a brief period of time, they really should be doing better than what they are right now.

RIM didn't have any vision, though, and were eclipsed by Apple and Google.

I owned a BB Storm and it was a piece of junk, the Torch fell flat and now the Playbook has been delayed.

I wonder who is going to buy RIM out, they are in desperate need of a hit product. RIM needs a halo product as badly as Apple did before the iPod came out.

    Very well said.

One Rim founder spent too much time trying to buy hockey teams, the other founder too much time building science centers .... meanwhile Steve was dreaming up cool products and turning them into reality. Well done, Steve :apple:

Have you seen Windows GUI? It's also almost identical - rows of icons and task bar at the bottom. Did Microsoft sue Apple? No.

That's a hell of a stretch - there's far more similarity between iOS and OS X (not surprisingly) than between Windows and iOS. Apart from that, Microsoft and Apple have extensive cross licensing agreements in place after the events of the early '90s.
If you decided to release a new OS that looked just like Windows 7, or a UI that was a copy of Windows Mobile 7, you'd have Microsoft's lawyers on your back in the blink of an eye...

    It's already available http://www.eset.com/home/cybersecurity-for-mac

Cool, thanks for the info, i didnt know about this product. Although reading the feature list it sounds more like a internet security and windows virus detector then a mac AV. But maybe i'm wrong.

Anyone who has tested it and is willing to share the experience?
(maybe i take a snapshot of my OSX and give the demo a try, dont want to risk it :) )

Haven't we heard before from this "tech-unsavvy friend, who is regularly hired by Apple to do marketing photo shoots", maybe sometime in the past year or two? The line sounds familiar. I don't recall if the previous bit of information from that source was true or not.

Yeah, he took pictures of the new iMac G5 in an elevator...;)

I'll only add to what mcrain wrote by saying that what you're describing is a race to the bottom. If capital gains taxes were so corrosive, every government should logically keep them at 0%. Is that really the logical conclusion you'd like to make with this line of reasoning?

Investors have already been investing in Asian markets for decades, and it has nothing to do with taxes; it has everything to do with how rapidly those markets have been growing over the past 40 years.

Keep in mind I'm not saying what things should be (I believe everything moves in cycles which cannot be avoided). I'm just saying the presumed benefits and consequences of higher taxes are misunderstood. It is always a race to the bottom/race to the top (depending on your perspective; "bottom" carries with it a negative connotation. if someone were arguing for a "race to the bottom" he has already lost rhetorically). Why has America had a history of immigrants coming to seek prosperity? Every rising nation has a wild west phase.

To answer your question, any country that genuinely wants to improve their economy, as well as the lives of its citizens, would have 0% taxes on capital gains, income, and corporations. Most countries don't do this, not because it isn't true, but because it isn't human nature. Politicians seek power, approval, legacy, etc., all of which require taking money and spending it.

Now, I finally get to use the phrase "beg the question" in its correct meaning (a pet peeve of mine; Jon Stewart and Conan O'Brien always use it incorrectly). Saying that investors are investing in Asia because of growth and nothing to do with taxes, is merely begging the question. Didn't I mention in my previous post that taxes hamper growth? China was a communist country, in effect, a 100% tax. Call me crazy, but I think the change in that tax rate has contributed significantly to China's growth. Hong Kong was one of the first regions in Asia to grow. Let me give you one guess why Hong Kong has been an economic powerhouse for several decades now.

Steve needs to provide a better answer because this one makes him look like a liar.

Ok, so there's a DB on your phone and the computer it syncs to. How do we know it's not being used in some nefarious way? Why isn't it regularly wiped?

I ran the app on my Macbook and it showed where I was since I had the phone....it was scary...

Soooo.....web hosting of as many sites you want as long as they are under 20GB is not worth anything? Or find my i***? Or fle sharing? Or MM galleries? Or maybe a Pro Photog can build and upload his entire site AND host it directly from Aperture? There are MANY MANY cool features of Mobile Me...if you dont need them...dont buy it..but many do...I have for years and get LOTS of use out of it...
